There are some common conditions that a community pharmacist can now treat. When you submit a medical request a GP will review your request and may refer you to a local pharmacist for an assessment and treatment, including the prescription of antibiotics where needed. The pharmacist will call you on the same day, and may ask to see you in person where necessary to assess you physically. In the rare instance that the pharmacist cannot manage your condition they will refer back to your GP.
Pharmacy First is an NHS-directed service, and it is one of the ways we ensure that patients see the right clinician at the right time, so that we can use our GP appointments more efficiently.
